John Barrowman talks to Entertainment Wise

articleimage_550
Online entertainment news website Entertainment Wise has conducted an exclusive interview with everyone’s favourite omnisexual, immortal Time-Agent-playing actor and singer John Barrowman about what he’s currently up to tour and singing-wise as well as touching on a possible fifth series of Torchwood

Q: And looking ahead to future series’ is there anything in particular that you’d like to see Jack do? Any adventures you’d like to see him get taken on?
“I don’t know if I’m making an assumption because we don’t know if there is going to be another series yet, so were still waiting to see. But I’m happy with what the writers write. I like the aspect of that particular job - I’m not a producer, I’m not a writer, I come in and I get the scripts and I do the job, and I bring the character to life and that kind of brings a bit of the pressure off! But I think I’d love to see Jack time travel a little more, and I love going back in time to Jack’s past. I think that’s also nice to explore.”

Q: Jack’s a great character, what do you like most about playing him?
“The fact that he’s a hero and he’s a different kind of hero. He’s not a typical type of hero that you would see in a comic book or in a TV show, and that’s what I love about him. That’s what makes him fun to play. Also he’s a little bit naughty and he speaks his mind, and he’s got conviction with everything he does.”

Starz: Torchwood may not return in 2012

articleimage_567
The CEO at Starz, Chris Albrecht, has said that despite any form of success of Torchwood: Miracle Day, the show may not actually be certain to return next year, regardless of immense popularity. He emphasised – at the TV critics tour event - that much of Torchwood’s future i dependant on writer and showrunner Russell T Davies and whether he can come up with a story for the show that Starz deem good enough.

He said: “Torchwood is not one of the show we went into thinking about a yearly return. It’s about Russell T Davies … he has a lot of things on his plate. If Torchwood is at the top of his list, that will effect the future of Torchwood.”

Let’s hope Mr Albrecht sees sense very soon!

Underground Toys have revealed further details and image shots of the very first action figure of an Eleventh Doctor-era River Song alongside a scale-size Pandorica chair, which fits in with the Character Options-produced Pandorica walls that came part of a previous wave.

Of all the people who have travelled or will travel with the Doctor, River Song is the most enigmatic of them all. She always seems to be one step ahead of the Doctor, even when he’s in her past. Nobody has been able to figure out how River knows the Doctor so well, although there have been plenty of guesses!

Although River is a force to be reckoned with, she sometimes needs the Doctor’s help – whether it’s against the Vashta Nerada or the Weeping Angels, or any of the other foes they have faced, or even will face in future. Confused? It will all become clear... one day...

The River Song and Pandorica Chair action figure set costs £22.99 and is exclusive to Forbidden Planet and is expected for delivery/release on 22nd August 2011.

John Barrowman at Comic Con: “I’d love to come back”

articleimage_549

John Barrowman (everyone’s favourite omnisexual rogue Time Agent, Captain Jack Harkness), while speaking and laughing [a lot] in yesterday’s San Diego Comic Con 2011 Torchwood panel, has addressed the recent popular topic of his eventual return to Doctor Who to come face-to-face with Matt Smith’s 11th Doctor.

When asked about the subject of his come-back and Matt Smith expressing his desire for Jack to come back, after a great amount of audience cheering, Barrowman said, “Having heard that I don’t think my answer really matters”.

He then added: “Torchwood and Captain Jack were born from the mother ship – I reference that as being Doctor Who. I think it would be an interesting thing…” and hastily added, “but I would love to do it!”.

Watch JB’s full answer below…

John Barrowman talks about returning to Doctor Who - Torchwood Panel Comic-Con 2011

So, John has discussed his return with The Moff, who (as well as Russell T Davies and Matt Smith) has also expressed his interest in Captain Jack coming back. Hopefully this will lead to Mr Harkness and The Doctor crossing paths once more, in more than just a cameo…

Karen Gillan Confirmed for Series 7

articleimage_552
Karen Gillan has revealed confirmation for the first time that – contrary to popular belief - she will be returning to Doctor Who in her role as Amy Pond for Series 7 in 2012. The news was broken exclusively to Zap2It while she and Matt Smith attended a round of press junket interviews as part of their trip to San Diego Comic Con.

When asked directly whether she will be returning for the seventh series since 2005, Gillan replied: “Well, I am going to come back, yes.”

However, without wishing to worry anyone, it should be pointed out that this does not confirm whether or not Karen will be returning for a full series. Her answer seems slightly hesitant, though this could be because of two possible reasons: a) she won’t return for a full series or b) she isn’t sure whether she’s allowed to say or how much she’s allowed to say yet.

New Fan Fiction - Power of the Heart

Thursday, 24 February 2011

articleimage_429
A new fan fiction series is on the horizon, and it’s been a while coming. The series is being produced by me, James Gray, and Emma Lousie (Tardis Console News), and Adam Holmes as part of our new project called The Doctor Who F.A.N. Project (“F.A.N.” being for fiction, art and novelisations) and is written by me and Emma.
The series goes by the title of Doctor Who: Power Of The Heart and features the Tenth Doctor and our original companion Maddy Ramos.
FanFiclogo03
Maddy is a 19-year-old Spanish-American girl who lives in the sleepy town of Summervale set in the US state of New Jersey. She was left with just her father and three brothers at the age of 2 years when her mother disappeared, seemly from the face of the Earth, and left just a small, green-jewelled necklace for Maddy. It’s only until the day of her nineteenth birthday that she discovered exactly why –the day she bumps into a man in a brown suit who changes her life forever.
And, here’s the opening titles for the series, with a slight (ok pretty obvious) clue to the title of the first episode…

Doctor Who: Power Of The Heart is due to begin in March 2011 in a 12-part series of 4 stories.

James Corden Returns for Series Six
The BBC have now officially confirmed that James Corden will return to Doctor Who in Series Six and will be filming his part, of the story he features in, in the second week of March. The BBC Doctor Who site has said:
James will reprise his role of Craig Owens, first seen in last series' adventure The Lodger. Back in 2010 James told us, 'There's been no talk of my return. I'd love another adventure - it would be great! I'm sort of disappointed I didn't get to go in the TARDIS...' Who knows if he'll find his way into the Doctor's time machine this time around? The character of Craig Owens proved popular last year. James described him as 'an ordinary bloke' but part of the character's appeal was his quiet bravery and charm. He became firm friends with the Doctor and we're now looking forward to seeing that friendship renewed!James said working on The Lodger had been 'fantastic' and you can still see the Set Tour he conducted whilst working on the episode, or watch the exclusive interview he gave us about life with the Doctor. Finally, you can remind yourself of Craig's sporting prowess by watching the famous scene where he plays footie with a number 11 who's out of this world...His return is, most likely, tied in in some way with the glimpse of the makeshift TARDIS from ‘The Lodger’ (in which Corden starred) in the Series Six Coming Soon trailer shown at the end of ‘A Christmas Carol’ (see below).> BBC Doctor Who siteWhat are your thoughts on this? Do you want Corden to return? What are your theories on Craig’s return? Please comment.

Doctor Who Spoilers have reported that the BBC might be scheduling a Doctor Who weekend as there are numerous sources that indicate that the first two episodes – the two-part story filmed in the Utah dessert - will be broadcast in the UK on BBC One on consecutive days, with episode one on the Easter weekend Saturday 23rd April and the second episode on the Sunday.
According to a few sources including a couple of posters the Sixth Series will begin over Easter weekend with Episode One airing on Saturday 23rd of April and the concluding episode of the opening two-parter being screened the following day.Assuming that there’s no break in the series when the Eurovision final airs on the 14th May (which considering there’s no “Andrew Lloyd-Webber looks at young girls” show this year, is a reasonable assumption) the mid-series finale will be transmitted on 28th May, the night of the Champions League final. The Champion’s league final kicks off at 7:45pm on ITV, so assuming a 30 minute build-up show that could see the mid-series finale airing at 6:30pm (or 6:15pm if it’s a 60-minute episode).> Doctor Who SpoilersWhat do you think? Alex Kingston: “I fell in love with River”
Alex Kingston has said she didn’t realise how popular Doctor Who was when she was offered the part of the the mysterious character of River Song. The 47-year-old told Reader’s Digest, "I'm not allowed to breathe a word about the new storylines... otherwise, they take away my sonic screwdriver.”She added: "When I was first offered the part, I had no idea how successful the new Doctor Who was because I was in the US. But as soon as I read the script, I fell in love with River. She provides a very complex link to the Doctor's life and ever since I saw Alien, a little bit of me has wanted to run around a spaceship shooting intergalactic monsters."According to Steven “The Moff” Moffat, the truth behind the mystery of who River Song truly is will once and for all be revealed in Series 6, which Kingston was reportedly told long before even Matt Smith or the other main cast members were. It all adds to the excitement of the mystery!Do you like River? Who do you think she’ll turn out to be?Please comment.

Nicholas Courtney Passes Away
It is with great regret that I inform you that Nicholas Courtney passed away peacefully last night.Nicholas Courtney debuted as the Brigadier alongside Patrick Troughton’s Second Doctor, but has become rooted in fans hearts as part of the wide U.N.I.T. team that helped the Third Doctor in his first few earth-bound series. Nicholas made many return visits to the series during the Fourth Doctor’s travels in the 1970s and appeared in Who with almost every Doctor since, but appeared in his life-defining role most recently in The Sarah Jane Adventures in 2008’s ‘Enemy of the Bane’, finally affirming his place in ‘new-Who’, opposite Courtney’s good friend and fellow Doctor Who star Elisabeth Sladen. All our sympathies go out to his family and friends in this difficult time. Nicholas will be sadly missed by them and his legions of fans, but will undoubtedly be remembered with great, great fondness.

Brand New Fan Fiction - Power of the Heart

A new fan fiction series is on the horizon, and it’s been a while coming. The series is being produced by me, James Gray, and Emma Lousie (Tardis Console News), and Adam Holmes as part of our new project called The Doctor Who F.A.N. Project (“F.A.N.” being for fiction, art and novelisations) and is written by me and Emma.
The series goes by the title of Doctor Who: Power Of The Heart and features the Tenth Doctor and our original companion Maddy Ramos.

Will you read Power Of The Heart? What do you think? Please comment.

Torchwood: Miracle Day – Ten Teasers

articleimage_540
Online television news and spoiler source Digital Spy have released their own set of ten tantalising teasers for the upcoming series of Torchwood: Miracle Day in this run-up period to its premiere on American cable network Starz six days before the UK’s BBC One broadcast.

1. There's a cheeky reference to a deceased former Torchwood member (and no, it's not Ianto).
2. The chief villains from Torchwood: Children of Earth also get a mention, in a roundabout sort of way.
3. "The Founding Fathers had me in mind when they wrote the Constitution, don't you think?"
4. At one point, Rex makes a less than graceful escape.
5. "She should have run faster."
6. A certain drug familiar to Torchwood fans is utilised once again.
7. "First sign of trouble, you go running off with Captain Jack B*llocks."
8. Wales is the British equivalent of New Jersey.
9. "I've got to *** for this ******?!"
10. After lurking in the shadows for a while, Captain Jack makes a suitably heroic return.

Torchwood: Miracle Day premieres (local time zones)…
  • Starz (USA) – Friday 8th July - 9PM/8c
  • Space (Canada) – Friday 8th July
  • UKTV (Australia) - Saturday 9th July - 8:30PM
  • BBC One (UK) – Thursday 14th July - 9PM

Torchwood: Miracle Day – ‘The New World’ Synopsis

articleimage_538
The BBC Press Office have now released the full official synopsis for the Torchwood: Miracle Day exciting opening episode, ‘The New World’, given the name of the working title for the whole series before they came up with “Miracle Day” as a name.
PromoSet_28
One day, nobody dies. All across the world, nobody dies. And then the next day, and the next, and the next, people keep ageing – they get hurt and sick, but they never die. The result: a population boom, overnight.

With all the extra people, resources are finite. It’s said that in four month's time, the human race will cease to be viable. But this can’t be a natural event – someone’s got to be behind it. It’s a race against time as CIA agent Rex Matheson investigates a global conspiracy. The answers lie within an old, secret British institute. As Rex keeps asking: "What is Torchwood?", he’s drawn into a world of adventure, and a threat to change what it means to be human ... for ever.

In the launch episode of Torchwood: Miracle Day, Agent Rex Matheson is impaled in a car crash and miraculously survives, while his analyst, Esther Drummond, sets out to discover what Torchwood is. Far away, in Wales, Gwen Cooper lives in hiding with her husband Rhys and daughter Anwen – she’s the last surviving Torchwood member and is determined to stay hidden. In Kentucky, convicted murderer Oswald Danes survives his own execution. And when Esther meets the mysterious Captain Jack Harkness, assassins are activated to kill them all...

Torchwood: Miracle Day premieres (local time zones)…
  • Starz (USA) - Space (Canada) – Friday 8th July
  • UKTV (Australia) - Saturday 9th July 8:30PM
  • BBC One (UK) – Thursday 14th July 9PM

Torchwood UK Airdate Confirmed

The BBC have finally confirmed the broadcast date that Torchwood: Miracle Day will premiere in the UK on BBC One in a press release today, and it isn’t good for us Britons…

“Torchwood: Miracle Day will screen in the UK on BBC One, on Thursday nights. The series will begin on Thursday 14th July, at 9pm.”

So in the UK, despite the fact the new series of Torchwood is half produced and funded by the BBC with Starz, we’re getting it SIX days after the US and five days after Australia and Canada. I try not to litter my blog posts with my own personal opinions too much, but this truly is a mess.

Not the series itself – I have no doubt that it will be magnificent – but this is 2011, where they managed to get Doctor Who Series 6 (in which only Utah-shot scenes were helped by BBC America) to air in the US and in the UK on the same day. The BBC should get it’s act together because otherwise it’ll have even more angry fans and viewers on its hands by the time the next series comes than they already do with this series.

Torchwood: Miracle Day premieres (local time zones)…
  • Starz (USA) - Space (Canada) – Friday 8th July
  • UKTV (Australia) - Saturday 9th July 8:30PM
  • BBC One (UK) – Thursday 14th July 9PM

In memory of Elisabeth Sladen

As I’m sure you all know by now, but it is with deep regret that inform you of the passing of Elisabeth Sladen.

Elisabeth was, to put it quite simply, a Doctor Who legend. She was a kind, generous, warm-hearted lady who stole the scene every time she walked into frame. I was – as I know many, if not all, of you were – utterly shocked and saddened by the news of her death last night. Again, as with Lis’s good friends Barry Letts (prolific Doctor Who producer 1969-74) and Nicholas Courtney (The Brigadier), it was cancer that did it. Apparently she had been ill for quite some time.

My apologies for the long delay of this post, but I had no idea how I could possibly write something that would do this wonderful lady enough justice. I cannot express the tremendous feeling of disbelief and shock that I felt when I heard the news of Elisabeth’s death - I expect many of you experienced something very similar.

Though I have known Doctor Who well my whole life, I am somebody who came to the show properly in 2003, after the announcement of the show’s imminent return and during the surge of classic series story repeats. I was first introduced to the character of Sarah Jane Smith in a repeat of the story ‘Pyramids Of Mars’ on UK Gold, which for me could not have been a better introduction to Miss Smith. I distinctly remember being struck during that story by how original Sarah Jane was as a companion to what I had seen before and by this actress’s brilliant performance and portrayal.

As a discovered a few years later, this was the performance of Elisabeth Sladen who, if I hadn’t taken to her instantly before, had stolen my heart as Sarah Jane once more in ‘School Reunion’ in 2006 – despite all the years off-screen, Elisabeth proved she hadn’t lost any of her talent for acting. So I was delighted when The Sarah Jane Adventures came along and turned out to be real TV gold, giving another generation the chance to fall in love with her and Sarah Jane Smith once more, and she did just that. Her energy and vibrant radiance never faltered, as with her performances.

All my sympathies go out to Elisabeth’s family and friends. She will be sadly missed by them and her many fans, and will definitely be remembered with great, great fondness. Goodbye Elisabeth Sladen, you will never be forgotten.

John Simm to Return?

articleimage_464
One of Doctor Who’s trio of executive producers and its head writer Steven Moffat has teased that John Simm may reprise his role in the show as the sixth incarnation of The Master, having previously appeared in Series 3’s three-parter finale and the 2009 specials finale and swansong of the Tenth Doctor ‘The End Of Time’.

At the screening of the opening two-parter story of Series 6 in New York recently, Moffat said:
"After [Simm’s last appearance] he'd been saying, 'I think now that David [Tennant]'s left as the Doctor, I would have to leave the Master'. But he pulled me aside and said, 'I didn't mean that! Look at me, I'm fit, I'm okay!'"

Moffat also laughed off the rife rumours that Benedict Cumberbatch, star of Moffat and Mark Gatiss’ Sherlock, would be cast as The Master, saying, “Benedict has to wait probably.”

So, would you want John Simm’s Master back?

  • Probably hinting at Series Six’s theme of “Silence will fall”, in Abigail’s Song (which she sings in the climax of the episode) the final line is, “Silence will fall all around.”
  • The story is based somewhat on the Charles Dickens tale of the same name – Kazran Sardick is the character that represents Ebenezer Scrooge, The Doctor as the Ghost of Christmas Past, and Amy Pond as the Ghost of Christmas Present.
  • This is the first episode to feature Arthur Darvill’s name in the opening titles.
  • Steven Moffat had the idea of the shark being scary and able to swim out of water from his own childhood fears of the same thing happening.

I think that’s also nice to explore.” Q: Jack’s a great character, what do you like most about playing him? “The fact that he’s a hero and he’s a different kind of hero. He’s not a typical type of hero that you would see in a comic book or in a TV show, and that’s what I love about him. That’s what makes him fun to play. Also he’s a little bit naughty and he speaks his mind, and he’s got conviction with everything he does.” Posted by thedoctorwho07 at 18:03 0 Comments - POST A COMMENT Labels: actors, appearences, entertainment wise, interview, john barrowman, miracle day, torchwood Thursday, 15 September 2011 SJA Series 5 - ‘Sky’ Synopses articleimage_587 The BBC Press Office have today released the two official synopses of the opening two episodes of The Sarah Jane Adventures Series 5 – the opening story, ‘Sky’ in the fifth and final series of the hit CBBC series… ‘Sky’ - Part 1 Sarah Jane finds a baby girl on her doorstep and tries to find out who abandoned her. Sarah Jane Adventures – Series 5 CBBC Teaser

articleimage_587
The first teaser preview of the 5th and final series of The Sarah Jane Adventures is now playing on the CBBC Channel as part of an CBBC Autumn line-up of shows. It includes some exciting shots of the SJA gang united once more, as well as what looks like a cyclops and a young girl with Luke in one shot and in another appears to be entering The Attic for the first time (could she be the rumoured new member of the gang?).

Sarah Jane Adventures Series 5 Teaser Trailer

The Sarah Jane Adventures Series 5 is due to begin this October 2011 on BBC1 with 6 episodes (3 two-parter stories), half the amount of the originally-planned number due to the tragic passing away of Elisabeth Sladen.

Miranda Hart in Doctor Who?

articleimage_585
Cultbox have reported how successful and popular British writer and comedienne Miranda Hart hinted at the recent event Miranda: A Masterclass, at the Media Guardian Edinburgh International Television Festival, that a role in Doctor Who is on the cards.

At the event, Miranda: A Masterclass, host Mariella Frostrup brought up Hart's "aspirations" to star in the BBC sci-fi drama. This seemed to throw the sitcom star somewhat as she audibly stuttered a few times before admitting, "Yeah, I think everyone wants to be in Doctor Who."

Frost retorted with, "But you particularly did, no?" to which Hart became slightly fidgety, stuttering again, "No, no, that's not true." Tellingly, and somewhat evasively, she added after a pregnant pause, "Let's move on," to which the audience erupted in knowing laughter. Sealing the lid on the topic, she added, "Doctor Who would be great."

BBC's Head of Comedy, Mark Freeland, had already drawn allusions with former Who star Catherine Tate (companion Donna Noble) stating that, "... comedy lost someone too soon with Catherine Tate." But it appears that Hart is to explore her acting abilities regardless, having filmed in the upcoming BBC drama,Call The Midwife with Jenny Agutter (Spooks) and Pam Ferris (Little Dorrit).

This is not the first time, or even second, that the award-winning gagster has been connected with Doctor Who. The rumour mill was in overdrive earlier this year when a tabloid newspaper claimed that Steven Moffat had offered her a role only to have BBC Controller Danny Cohen step in, asking her to concentrate on comedy.

So what do you think? Would you want Miranda Hart to star in a Doctor Who story?
